Sample flights

We found the greatest concentration of $39 one-way fares for flights from the West Coast. For example, if you live in Los Angeles and have been thinking of making a trip to Las Vegas to check out a U2 performance at the futuristic Sphere venue, January is a good time to do it. You can book $39 one-way fares out of Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in late January (when U2 has two shows). There’s lots of availability in January and February at this price for this route.

Sale fares from San Francisco to the desert are also widely available right now. We found good availability for $59 one-way fares from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to LAS in March and April.

If you live in South Florida and want to visit Boston in January, Southwest is offering one-way flights out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) for as low as $79. We checked out the Low Fare Calendar and found lots of options at this price in January. Only a few flights remain at that price in February and beyond.

If you live in Seattle, you can book a quick weekend trip to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in January for just $105 round-trip.

We’ve also found lots of discounted one-way fares out of Chicago’s Midway International Airport (MDW) to BOS in January. This itinerary to Boston is a nice deal at $145 round-trip.

Another area to target to find the best prices is Hawaii. If you’re thinking of going to paradise in the new year, you can find some great deals right now. There are lots of $50 one-way fares out of Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) to Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) in January and February, which just so happens to be prime whale watching season for Maui.
